“Speak Out” is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Scott Dempsey.
We’ve got to admit, this one stings a bit.
NFC Champions, but our Panthers came up short in the Big Game.
It’s been a terrific ride…From the first few contests when critics said the team’s undefeated streak was just a fluke…
to the end of the season when it looked like football perfection was possible.
Not quite, but we rolled through the Playoffs and on to the Super Bowl!
Now, sports is just a form of entertainment.
Rooting for the home team is not going to make our schools better or resolve the toll lanes dilemma.
But isn’t it great see Panther flags flying from car windows?...
To wear your team colors to work and the boss is all for it?...
To “high five” people you’ve never met before and think “We’re all in this together!”?
To put it simply, this year has just been fun!
Cam “dabbing” and passing out footballs to ecstatic young fans.
Luke Kuechly and Josh Norman leading a dominating defense.
Thomas Davis playing “big boy” football with a broken arm, for Pete’s sake!
As we know, this kind of season doesn’t come along all that often.
We thank Panthers Owner Jerry Richardson and everyone in the organization for taking us on an incredible thrill ride.
Pre-season camps open in July and we’ll have the league’s MVP and Coach of the Year back on the field.
We’ll look forward to a Panthers’ victory in Super Bowl LI next February.
In the meantime, “Keep pounding, Carolinas!”
