(RNN) – Panthers quarterback Cam Newton walked out of the post-game news conference after his team lost to the Denver Broncos 24-10 on Sunday night.

Speaking to the media with his hoodie pulled up over his head, critics have called the NFL Most Valuable Player petulant, while others have given him a pass for being young and heartbroken.

He gave mostly one-word answers, but after a while did give a longer response to a reporter's question.

"They just played better than us. I don't know what you want me to say. They made more plays than us and that's what it comes down to. I mean we had our opportunities, it wasn't nothing special that they did, we dropped balls, we turned the ball over, gave up sacks, threw errant passes, that's it, they scored more points than us," he said.

After a sigh, he said, "I'm done" and walked off the stage.

All season, the 26-year-old’s ebullient behavior has divided football fans – some love it, some hate it.

During the Super Bowl, Newton was sacked six times and committed three turnovers, one of which the Broncos recovered in the end zone.
