BLOG: Three key games in the Panthers' Super Bowl season

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The Carolina Panthers are just days away from playing for the Lombardi Trophy, during Super Bowl 50, against the Denver Broncos.

We're taking a look back at the games that put the Cats on the track for the championship.

These are the three key games from the Panthers' regular season:

Week 6: Panthers at Seattle

The most important game of the regular season to me was the victory in week six at Seattle when the Panthers had to rally to beat the Seahawks 27-23.

Not only was it important that they had to come back to win, to do it against their biggest nemesis and the two time defending NFC champs was a huge confidence boost for them and signal that they had finally gotten over the hump.

Week 8: Panthers vs Indianapolis

The second most important game came just weeks later at the Bank of America stadium when the Panthers defeated the Indianapolis Colts 29-26 in overtime.

It was a game the Panthers seemingly had under control until the Panthers lost the lead late in the game. They were able to battle back and hold off the Colts' stand in OT to clinch the win.

The team moved to 7-0 on the season, but the game was a training ground for a couple games later in the season that would be late game slip-ups. The taste of blowing a lead, but still winning in the end, was something they could refer back to later.

Weeks 14 & 16: Atlanta Falcons

And finally, the third most important game, to me, had to be a combination of the 38-0 win over the Atlanta Falcons in week 14 of the regular season and the 20-13 loss to Atlanta just two weeks later. The loss ended the Panthers bid for a perfect season and possible history.

Their dominating performance against the Falcons at home and loss two weeks later was a wake-up call. No matter how good you are, you can go down in the loss column if you don’t play your best.

I said this was the third most important combination game of the season, but I just changed my mind. This may have been the most important and may be the game that this team looks back on as the biggest contributing factor to them getting to Super Bowl 50 and hopefully closing the deal.
