CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A man dressed in black from head to toe, uses a sawed-off shotgun to intimidate and frighten two clerks into giving him money.
It happened at the Sagla Red Sea Grocery on North Statesville Road shortly after 8 p.m.
Surveillance shows him rushing in the front door and immediately pulling out a sawed-off shotgun, then demanding clerks put money into the yellow bag he's brought with him.
"Normally it's a handgun for most robberies," said CMPD Detective Tori Roddey. "And also, what's so unique is the blue gloves - like medical gloves that this guy has on his hands."
Detective Roddey thinks those blue gloves might be a tip off as to this crook's profession. "It could be to me. It's not everyday persons who have medical gloves in their hands."
Before the robbery left, he forced one of the clerks on the floor by poking his shotgun at his chest. He threatened he would shoot if they got up.
Does the fact this robber uses blue gloves and a sawed-off shotgun mean he's pulled the same crime before?
"Yes, he has," said the detective. "That's why we need the public to help us out."
The public has responded over the past year as evidenced by the latest statistics from 2015.
Crime Stoppers generated 24-hundred-53 tips last year-- that's more than a 10% rise from the previous year.
There were 232 arrests made from tips and that's up more than 10%.
108 fugitives were arrested and 34 guns were taken off the streets, including two guns from school kids.
