Pantheritis causes 'illness' around the Carolinas

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

There’s no doubting that this is one of the most special times in our team’s history. Making it to Super Bowl 50 after a long-fought battle of a near perfect season is something to celebrate.

There’s only one problem, people also have to go to work and school.

Three days a week the Carolina Panthers players practice at a field right next to Bank of America stadium.

Hundreds of fans line the gates as players make their way to the field. Those people hope to get autographs and some just want to wish the boys good luck.

Many of them play hookie from work or school to go.

“This is the Super Bowl baby!” one unnamed fan told us. That fan called in sick to work to attend.

Many of the folks who did the same told us their loyalty to their jobs is strong, just not the week before the big game.

We interviewed some of those people for television and promised we wouldn’t reveal their identity, though most told us, if they were to be exposed it’d probably be ok.

Bosses and teachers are Panthers fans too!
