A few months ago, Mary Ward was relatively unknown outside of her neighborhood in rural Lincoln County.

Then, one Sunday afternoon, her great-grandson Justin put a picture of Mary doing the dab, while decked out in a Panthers jersey, on the internet. The photo went viral.

“People were calling me from all over the world for interviews,” Mary recalls with a huge grin.

Mary has been a die-hard Panthers fan since the team’s inception. She’s watched almost every single game the team has played from the comfort of her recliner in her living room.

A few weeks after her photo went viral, the Panthers invited Mary to a game against the Atlanta Falcons.

“I think I know what it’s like to die and go to heaven, because that’s what it felt like to me,” Mary said.

While at the game, Mary ended up on the big-screen and did a dab for the crowd of more than 77,000 people.

“I couldn’t hear nothing after that," Mary said, "They were all screaming so loud.”

Now, after surviving some of the most intense games in the NFL, Mary says she never doubted for a second "the boys" would go all the way.

“They deserve it. I’m just, well, pleased and happy for them. I’ve been rooting for that ever since they started,” Mary said.

Mary says of course that she picks the Panthers to win Super Bowl 50, and she’ll again be watching and cheering from home.

She also added a personal message to Thomas Davis, who’s hoping to make the game next week after breaking his arm in Sunday’s Championship game against the Cardinals.

“Just put your trust in God and ask him to heal ya’ and let you able to play," she said. "It would be wonderful, I’d love to see you in it.”
