Molly's Kids: #KeepPounding has double meaning for Huntersville's Will Haymore

Friday was “Keep Pounding” day at Lake Norman Charter School in Huntersville. It had double meaning for sophomore Will Haymore.

Teacher Karrie Dettrey reached out to explain.

“Will continuously tells himself to ‘Keep Pounding’ when school becomes overwhelming,” Karrie said. “He has cerebral palsy and has to maneuver the crowded hallways with his motorized wheelchair. We hate watching him struggle and his failing hand strength. But, we always hear him tell himself, ‘I just have to Keep Pounding’. This young man's determination and perseverance through his disability every day inspires fellow classmates."

Will's mom, Sherie, says her son was born 27 weeks early.

She also tells me Will is the world’s biggest Carolina Panthers fan. He has four jerseys. Kuechly, Newton, Beason… and Michael Oher.

For “Keep Pounding” Friday, Will chose #73.

“It’s ‘Keep Pounding’ Friday,” said Sherie. “Not just ‘We-love-the-Panthers’ Friday. Michael is his inspiration to always keep going.”

If you don’t know Michael Oher's name, go look him up.

Gotta love that.

Sherie also says Will’s college aspiration is to be a football coach, that he knows all Panthers stats and data from years past.

Here’s to Will, #KeepPounding, #73, all the Panthers and a win on Sunday.
