School investigating photo of purported noose at South Point High

BELMONT, NC (WBTV) -

An investigation is underway after a photo showing a purported noose at South Point High School began circulating online.

WBTV was contacted Friday, by multiple parents at the school, about the photo.

Todd Hagans, a spokesman for Gaston County Schools, says principal Gary Ford was made aware of the photo Friday morning.

**EDITOR'S NOTE: WBTV is choosing not to broadcast the photo because of the incendiary nature of the photograph**

The photo shows a small noose-like object that appears to be tied with a shoe lace dangling in front of a young African-American male.

Ford reportedly spent time looking into the image. Hagans says school officials can tell the photo was taken in the school's gym, because of the background of the photo.

Hagan's says the school will continue to investigate the photo in an attempt to figure out who took it. Once the investigation is complete, it will be up to principal Ford to determine if any disciplinary action will be taken.
