Bounce Scholar of the Week: Aurorah Mendez

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Each week during the school year, Project L.I.F.T. selects a student who is excelling not only inside the classroom, but outside as well. The student - along with their favorite teacher - is featured every Wednesday on WBTV News on Bounce at 8 p.m. The program operates within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System.

This week's scholar is Aurorah Mendez, a 3rd Grader at Druid Hills Academy.

Aurorah loves to read. Her favorite books are:

  • "The Chronicles of Narnia"
  • "Alice in Wonderland"
  • "Dork Diaries"

Aurorah's favorite subjects in school are:

  • Science
  • Reading

Aurorah's Extracurricular Activities:

  • Dance - Received a scholarship worth $1500 with BB Dance and the Irene Bradley foundation.
  • Golfing - Received scholarship with the First Tee. Golfing for over a year

Aurorah loves to sing and wants to be a star. She says she is going to be a singer and actress. She sang on Bounce TV.

She hopes to start classes for acting and music with the Children's Theater of Charlotte the next session. Aurorah is a 3rd grader and is very mature. She lives with her mother Linda Mendez and siblings Telah and Dura Mendez. They have a very close and loving family.

    A state regulator on Friday rejected Duke Energy’s request to raise customers rates in Charlotte, ordering it instead to cut those rates. The North Carolina Utilities Commission's order amounts to a rare denial for the Charlotte-based utility, which had sought its first rate hike since 2013 for central and western North Carolina.
