Heavy rain tapers off throughout the day, returns tomorrow for repeat performance

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Heavy rain lasts on and off through the morning hours, but it won't stick around all day.

By lunch time and through the afternoon and evening hours, the steady rain will have tapered to just leftover showers. This will allow afternoon highs to reach the 60s after starting out this morning in the 50s.

Some spots have already picked up over an inch of rain this morning, and more is on the way for tomorrow.

Wednesday morning will most likely be a repeat performance, with another sloppy commute for those who have to work. Rain could by heavy at times Wednesday with highs in the upper 60s.

Many places may be pushing 2-day rainfall totals close to 2" or more after today and tomorrow.

The steady rain backs off to just showers for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. They'll also be the warmest days of the week with highs in the mid 70s!

The rest of the extended forecast features a 30% shower chance and highs in the 60s to near 70° through early next week.

Stay dry!
