Arrow Exterminators offers advice to keep the holidays pest free

The holiday season is a time to celebrate and spread good cheer.

Unfortunately, holiday baking, parties and decorations can be a great reason for pests to celebrate as well.

To help avoid these party crashers, Arrow Exterminators is educating homeowners on what to keep an eye out for and proactive steps they should take to protect their homes.

“Homeowners are often engaging in activities this time of year such as baking, parties and decorating that can provide an entryway or welcoming environment for pests,” said Arrow’s pest expert, Charlie Jones. “A few simple steps can go a long way to ensure pests don’t ruin the festivities.”

Here are some tips to keep in mind this holiday:

“We always recommend that homeowners thoroughly clean and conduct a complete inventory of their pantry this time of year, closely inspecting dry goods, such as flour, corn meal and sugar for pests,” Jones said.

Pests, including spiders and ants, may take up residence in fake trees or wreaths and you can unknowingly bring them into the home as well. Make sure to inspect your decorations before putting them in your home.

While a roaring fire is certainly welcoming for guests, that stack of firewood is also the perfect nesting spot for many pests. Arrow recommends storing the firewood away from your home and inspecting it before you bring wood into your home.
