CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Carowinds invited camera crews to get a behind the scenes tour of their newest edition, Carolina Harbor Water Park.
When it's all done, Carowinds spokeswoman Laresa Thompson said the park will be 40% bigger. It is slated to open next spring.
"We are really excited. We are going to be the largest water park in the Carolinas and that is North and South Carolina. Charlotte is growing by leaps and bounds and Carowinds is keeping up with it," Thompson said.
One of the main attractions at Carolina Harbor will be Black Beard's Revenge. It will be six stories tall and feature a thrilling drop slide.
Thanks to some unseasonably warm weather, Carowinds officials said they are working a little bit ahead of schedule.
Opening day is anticipated to take place sometime in May, then thrill seekers can enjoy two parks in one trip.
"It is two parks for the price of one," Thompson said. "You are really saving tons of money and we tell people go get a Gold Season Pass. You get free parking, you get into both parks and you get so many perks if you just buy a season pass."
Carolina Harbor Water Park boasts of a brand new restaurant and full service bar. As well as a new entrance that will give guests easier access to park.
