Weekend weather to reach 70s, rain chances return late Sunday

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

After starting out this morning in the 40s to near 50° in Charlotte, afternoon temperatures will increase to near 70° with a mix of clouds and sun. There could also be a few morning areas of fog, especially Northwest of the city.

As for the weekend, both mornings start out in the 50s with afternoon highs reaching the low 70s, a full 20° above normal for mid-December.

Saturday will be dry before rain chances gradually increase by late Sunday. There is a very slim shower chance during the day, but a little better chance after the sun goes down on Sunday, so at this time it's looking like the Panthers game will be dry Sunday afternoon with kick-off temps in the low 70s!

A very strong storm system that is slamming into the Pacific Northwest right now finally makes its way to the East Coast for Monday. Although it will be weaker by the time it gets here, almost all of us will see rain, and maybe even a few rumbles of thunder with highs in the mid 60s.

Even after the front moves through early next week, readings will remain on the mild side- although not in the 70s- highs in the mid 60s will still keep things about 10° above-average by mid-December standards.
