FORT MILL, SC (WBTV) -

A Fort Mill man is being charged with murder after investigators say he is accused of murdering a woman inside a home and then moving her body to another county.

According to the York County Sheriff's Office, 22-year-old John Vincent Coddington was charged with murder.

Deputies say they were called to a home along the 900-block of Azurine Circle in Fort Mill Wednesday for "suspicious activity." Investigators say evidence led them to believe a homicide occurred in the home.

A neighbor who didn't want to be identified said when she looked outside around 1 o'clock Thursday morning, she saw approximately 10 unmarked police cars.

"It was very silent. Then we saw the forensic - two forensic cars come in, animal control - they took two cats," she said. "But it was silent. You could not tell what was going on. Then in the morning I did see that's when they put the crime scene tape."

Coddington was taken into custody and charged with murder.

Investigators believe Coddington moved the body of a woman, whose name has not been released, to Rippling Brooke Drive in Chester County.

"It was six o'clock in the morning and I came outside to crank the car and saw something we've never seen out here before - police lights up the street," said Wanda Jenkins. "There were three police cars and probably five or six other types of vehicles. But no fire trucks or ambulances like that."

Jenkins said what's baffling her is why did Coddington allegedly leave the victim on this rural street? How did he find it?

"It's one of those things you certainly never want to hear, and certainly shocking," she added. "We're out here in the middle of nothing. It's just country and we don't have things like that happen out here so it's quite shocking."

Neighbors in Fort Mill said they're just as shocked. They're still waiting to hear the name of the woman killed.

"I heard commotions coming from there," a neighbor recalled about past activity at the house. "Cars coming in and out but it didn't seem out of the ordinary."

Another neighbor, Robin Peterson, said she moved to the complex from Charlotte because she wanted a safer environment.

Now, she wants to know what happened.

"It matters a lot," Peterson said. "I came here for a quiet peaceful life for my boys. This concerns me a great deal."

The investigation is ongoing.

This is the sixth homicide of 2015 in York County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction.
