Woman charged in Arboretum GAP armed robbery faces judge

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A woman, who was arrested Wednesday in connection to an armed robbery of customers and employees at the GAP store in Charlotte's Arboretum, has appeared in court.

Ariel Terry, 22, was charged with second degree kidnapping, three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, and misdemeanor larceny.

The robbery happened just before 8 p.m. on November 21 at the GAP store on Providence Road in the Arboretum Shopping Center. According to a police report, the robbers, armed with guns, robbed eight people inside of their belongings.

While other people are wanted in the case, the details were around the other suspects were not discussed in court Thursday.

The judge reduced the bond on one of Terry's charges, but all of the bonds remained secured. She was appointed a public defender.

A few of the victims talked to WBTV soon after the the holdup, but asked that we not reveal their identity.

“I’m getting ready to walk out the door and I’m faced with four men with masks and guns, pointing and yelling everybody get down on the floor,” said one of the female victims.

The woman said she went to the store to return something when the robbers began yelling at customers and the manager inside.

“He instantly grabs my bag and starts to pull me on my knees to get me to the back of the store to the fitting rooms,” said the woman.

An iPhone 6, iPhone 5, wallet, money, debit card, credit cards, Droid Turbo, checkbook and purse were some of the items stolen. After obtaining the property, the robbers got into a vehicle and drove off, according to the police report. 

One of the eight victims was moved "with force" from one side of the store to the other, the report states.

Police have not said what led them to naming Terry as one of the suspects. She is currently being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail under a $250,500 bond. Her next court date is December 21
