Vigil planned to remember Erica Parsons

A vigil to remember missing Rowan County teenager Erica Parsons is scheduled for Saturday at the Rowan County Courthouse.

Parsons was reported missing by her brother in July 2013 at the Rowan County Sheriff's Office. She has reportedly not been seen since November 2011.

Her adoptive parents, Casey and Sandy Parsons, say Erica went to live with her biological grandmother in Asheville. They say they have not had any contact with her since February 2012.

Sandy Parsons is serving eight years in federal prison and Casey Parsons is serving ten years for cheating the government out of federal adoption assistance money that was intended for Erica.

The pair continued to collect the money for months after Erica had disappeared from their home on Miller Chapel Road in Salisbury.

The search for Erica Parsons now includes a new age progression picture provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.  The picture, which is included in this story, is meant to show how Erica Parsons might appear at the age of 17.

Anyone with any information on Erica's whereabouts or disappearance is urged to contact the FBI or the Rowan Sheriff's Office at 704-216-8700.  A $50,000 reward remains in place.

Many in the community are holding on to the hope that Erica is still alive and missing.  They want to keep Erica's name and picture in the public eye, and Saturday's vigil is one effort.

The vigil will be held from 5:00 - 6:00 pm at the Rowan Courthouse, 210 N. Main Street in downtown Salisbury.  Anyone is welcome to attend.
