Molly's Kids: Jessica Hayes turns 21 today, sometimes dreams come true

NEWTON, NC (WBTV) -

Happy Birthday to Jessica Hayes, and welcome to ?#‎MollysKids. She turns 21 today!

Jessica has cerebral palsy, autism, cortical blindness,s and hydrocephalus, a fancy name for excessive accumulation of fluid in the brain. She was born in Monroe, grew up in Denver, NC and just recently moved to Newton in Catawba County. She lives with her parents, older sister, and younger brother and sister.

“She's always positive," said her mom, Leslie Burleson. "We go and we do. We experience and live big. Jessica helps me around the house, and her brothers and sisters involve her in ways they can. Today, her 21st birthday, this is a real moment in time for her. We can’t wait to help her celebrate.”

When asked what she wanted for her birthday Jessica said she had one dream, “To meet Carolina Panthers player Luke Kuechly and give him one of my famous hugs.”

Because celebrating with Luke seemed unlikely, Jessica is instead having a party where she can dance from her wheelchair and hang out with her friends. Dream On 3 (one of my favorite charities in Charlotte) is involved.

“She likes to do the Whip and the Nae Nae,” Leslie said. “She’s more of a ponytail girl than a glamour girl. We want her to have the party she wants to have. She’s really excited.”

Think I speak for us all when I say we can’t wait to see pictures. And keep an open mind. You just never know. Sometimes dreams do come true…
