Molly's Kids: 12-year-old Lisa will perform in Thanksgiving Parade, before her 4th open heart surgery!

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

This is Charlotte native Lisa Bettendorf age 5... and Lisa now, at age 12.

She will have her 4th open heart surgery in Philadelphia right after Christmas, but tomorrow she’ll be performing in the Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade in Uptown Charlotte!

Lisa was born in 2003 with a rare congenital heart defect called ALCAPA.  Since then she has had three open heart surgeries, four additional operations, multiple cardiac catheterizations, two strokes and too many tests to count.  The beautiful home-schooled 6th grader averages six medical appointments a week.

None of that defines who Lisa really is.

“She loves to sing,” her mom Judy told me over the phone.  “She’s living and loving life.  She’s a child first, a patient second.  She loves to perform and has a voice that always surprises people.”

In fact, Lisa has her own girl band.  Her sister Rachel is also in it.  It’s called “Sister Love”.
“Sister Love” will be performing “Run, Run Rudolph” in Wednesday’s parade.  How cool!  Find out more about their band on their Facebook page here >> http://tinyurl.com/pn3beol

“My daughter has had a very tough life,” said Judy.  “But she has always put on a brave face and ALWAYS has an amazing smile. She has many health issues but we feel blessed.  She’s the youngest of four kids and my husband is an honorably discharged USMC veteran who served in the first Gulf War.”

Lisa – we’re honored to have you as one of the many amazing #MollysKids making their mark in our community in various incredible ways.  Rock it out at the parade.  I can’t wait to hear your version of Chuck Berry.  We’ll be looking for you!
