Weed going coast to coast

Hi everyone, this is Paul Cameron at my desk in the WBTV Newsroom.

A 14-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department is charged with first-degree murder tonight.  Video of the officer shooting a black teenager 16 times is spawning angry protests in the Windy City.  The officer believed the teenager had a knife in his hand.  It comes one year to the day after a grand jury decided not to prosecute the officer who shot Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

A commercial airline pilot is accused of smuggling drugs in and out of Charlotte.  We’ve uncovered a new affidavit outlining an elaborate ring.  Police say Saad Basha flew kilos of marijuana across the country.

Hope you can join us for the Novant Health Thanksgiving Day parade Thursday 9:30 a.m.  If you plan to attend, note the extra security near the parade route.  Charlotte city manager Ron Carlee has deemed this an “extraordinary event” which means more cops, more eyes on anything suspicious.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton on the cover of Sports Illustrated reminds many of the old S-I jinx.  In the past, many athletes appearing on the cover wind up having disappointing games immediately after the issue is published.  Despite a Thanksgiving Day rodeo with the Cowboys, the Panthers are only concerned with the final score, not superstitious fans.

Thursday’s weather looks great for a backyard game of family football, but Eric Thomas says we’ll have to suffer through some low 30’s tonight and tomorrow.

Please join Eric, Molly Grantham, Delano Little and me for WBTV News right now!
