Police chase spans 15 miles in Union County

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Deputies say an early morning chase through Union County started when a driver almost hit a police car head-on.

The officer reportedly turned on his lights, but the suspect refused to stop on Secrest Shortcut in Monroe.

Jesse Todd Moree, 23, has been arrested in the case.

The chase started at 2:58 a.m. Sunday morning and lasted until 3:07 a.m., according to the Union County Sheriff's Office. They say it covered about 15 miles.

Deputies say the suspect was traveling onto 601 N where he turned on to C J Thomas Road. Eventually, the car turned on Ridge Road where stop sticks were placed. Moree reportedly ran over the stop sticks and kept driving.

The driver took a turn onto Indian Trail Fairview Road, then the tires gave out in a field off of Simpson Road. Moree was arrested, but first tried to hop into the passenger’s seat to make it look like he wasn’t driving, according to the sheriff's office.

Moree has a revoked license from a previous DWI and has now been charged with DWI, injuring land, speeding to elude arrest, DWLR impaired rev, drug charges, and resisting arrest.

His total bond was set at $9,000.
