Several counties under Flash Flood Watch, Wind Advisory - Swipe for details

A well organized storm system is expected to arrive late today in the WBTV viewing area. While heavy rain doesn't get here until tonight, we already have a Flash Flood Watch in effect for the mountains from this afternoon through Thursday morning.

The watch includes Avery, Ashe, Watauga, Burke and Caldwell Counties. There is also a Wind Advisory in effect for Avery, Ashe and Watauga Counties through 9:00pm tonight.

Today brings a chance for showers at just about any time, but many locations outside of the mountains will just have a lot of clouds and occasional sprinkles or drizzle, nothing very heavy.

The heavy rain will arrive tonight and last through Thursday morning. Many areas will pick up 1-2" of rain before the front moves through by mid day Thursday.

We will clear out and dry out behind the front and Thursday afternoon looks great, with sunshine and warm afternoon readings in the mid 70s.

The cool down will begin on Friday when highs will back off to near 60°.  As for the weekend, it looks to be sunny but chilly with highs in the 50s Saturday and mainly in the 40s on Sunday.
