The dangerous money laundering trade in South Carolina

(WBTV) -

There is a billion dollar industry operating both under the radar and in the bright sunshine of one of the Carolinas most popular tourist destinations.

The goal of this industry is to send money out of the country and into the hands of drug cartels and terrorist groups.

"The infrastructure is here in South Carolina," said Retired Army Captain Andy Lewis. "The bad guys can move anything pretty much at will."

South Carolina has a loophole in its regulations. Drug dealers and groups connected to terror are jumping straight through it.

"They are doing it right in front of our face and doing it legally," said Bill Knowles of the Drug Enforcement Unit in Horry County.
