Lenoir-Rhyne Sweeps Queens, 3-0, On Volleyball Senior Day For Its Eighth Consecutive Victory
Bears forge a second-place tie in the league standings with Carson-Newman
Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (20-7, 18-4) celebrated Senior Day in style with a 3-0 sweep of Queens (13-15, 11-11) Saturday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
The Bears swept the Royals by scores of 25-10, 25-10 and 25-23 and won their eighth consecutive match in the process. Lenoir-Rhyne’s eight-match winning streak was also its second of the year. Lenoir-Rhyne finished in a second-place tie in the league regular season standings with Carson-Newman as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by senior outside hitter Ashley Wells (Lovingston, Va.) with a match-high 11 kills while sophomore outside hitter Brooke Redmond (Statesville, N.C.) added nine kills as the Bears avenged an earlier loss to the Royals.
Senior setter Briana Gottberg (Mooresville, N.C.) totaled 16 assists and six digs as the Bears limited the Royals to just a .076 hitting percentage and 21 attack errors. Lenoir-Rhyne also improved to 11-1 at home this year.
Queens, losers of two straight matches, was led by Taylor Henry (Kingsport, Tenn.) with eight kills while Annika Jones (Piedmont, S.C.) added 13 assists in the losing effort.
