If you’re driving down the road and you hear a loud pop or feel your car start to shake, you may be experiencing a flat tire or a car tire blowout. It’s important to remember to be calm and not to panic. You should first pull off the road safely. Once you’re safely off of the roadway, turn on your hazard lights.
With your car pulled off to safety and your hazard lights blinking, it’s time to learn how to change a flat tire!
Step #1: Retrieve the tire changing kit from your trunk that our Charlotte auto service center help you put together.
Step #2: Loosen the lug nuts and place the jack underneath the car. Consult your owner’s manual as to where the jack should go so you don’t damage your vehicle.
Step #3: Jack up the car off the ground about six or seven inches. Once the car is up off the ground and sturdy, completely remove the lug nuts. Make sure to keep them close by and to not let them get away from you.
Step #4: Remove the flat tire by pulling it straight out. Once it’s off the axle, replace it with the spare tire. Put the spare tire back on straight.
Step #5: Use the lug nut wrench to put the lug nuts back on. Make sure they are on tight! Once the tire is on correctly, carefully lower your car back to the ground and then remove the jack. Place the old, flat tire back in the trunk along with the jack and lug nut wrench.
