She walked right in

Hi everyone, this is Paul Cameron at my desk in the WBTV Newsroom.

Votes are in, and not much of a surprise in the outcome, Jennifer Roberts defeats Edwin Peacock for the Mayor’s job in Charlotte by a 5-point margin.  However, it was closer than predicted as Charlotte has twice as many registered Democrats than Republicans.

Rappelling protestors at the Panthers game has this town talking.  How could they get ropes and carabiners through security when most fans get pat downs and wandings?  One of the protestors, 35-year old Rica Madrid, says she just walked through the checkpoint with her rappelling gear.  Make you wonder, doesn’t it?

What irks me is not people who protest, it’s people who put others in danger for the sake of a message.  Had one of the dangling rappellers fallen when they initially went over the side of the upper deck, the likelihood of serious injury or death to spectators below was great.

In my mind, this is a serious crime and not just the misdemeanors the four arrested were charged with.

We’re learning tonight about the 11-year old boy who was run over at his bus stop in Chester.  Friends say he pushed his sister out of the way to save her.  La’Darious’ family says they are so heartbroken, they can’t bear to glance at the spot where he was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

Please join Molly Grantham, Eric Thomas, Delano Little and me for WBTV News at 11:00 tonight!
