IREDELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A former Special Education teacher from South Iredell High School has been charged with sex assaults that reportedly involve someone who was a student of his in the 1970's.
Allen Sloop Lowrance, 65, was arrested and charged with 20 counts of second degree sex offense.
An investigation began in late October when the Iredell County Sheriff's Office received a report about a sexual assault.
The alleged victim, who is developmentally disabled, told investigators that the initial abuse reportedly occurred at South Iredell High School in the 1970's, but then disclosed new incidents of sexual abuse by Lowrance that the alleged victim says had occurred between December 2014 and October 2015.
The two had met again through social media.
Lowrance was a Special Education teacher at South Iredell High School from 1974-1977, however, investigators say none of the current charges stem from the incidents during that time period.
Detectives executed a search warrant at Fund Raising Pros, the business Lowrance operates along Rolling Hills Road in Mooresville, and later arrested Lowrance. He now out of the Iredell County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call Detective Sergeant Mike Benfield at the Iredell County Sheriff's Office at 704.878.3180.
One woman who is a friend and business associate of Lowrance says she is shocked by the charges.
"Allen has always been just an awesome man," said Lisa Swinson. "He works with all of us, he's a great landlord, he's been an awesome man, it's very shocking."
