Charlotte mom says needle found inside candy bar from trick-or-treating

A Charlotte woman says her daughter found a sewing needle in her Halloween candy not just once, but twice since she went trick-or-treating.

Ann Williamson says her family went trick-or-treating in Charlotte's Stonehaven neighborhood Saturday night. But what the little girl found Sunday has her worried.

"She was checking her candy bars when she came running into the room with a needle she had pulled out of the middle of a fun-sized Snickers bar," Williamson said.

Williamson said her daughter, 11, had already been told to check her candy before eating any - something they'd been teaching her for years.

"I thought 'oh my gosh', I didn't know what to think," she said. "I couldn't believe it. Nothing like this had ever happened to us before, so I was shocked."

Williamson says she and her husband looked at the candy and the wrapper and couldn't tell that anything was wrong, saying nothing appeared to be unusual.

So Williamson called police and filed a report.

What she didn't expect was to find another needle. But according to Williamson, she did.

After we spoke to her Monday afternoon, Williamson called back to say her daughter found another needle in her candy.

"This can't be happening, again," she said. "It's a shame that kids can't go out on Halloween and have fun. It's supposed to be a fun time."

Williamson says she called police, again, to tell them about the second needle.

"I just think as parents you have to be very diligent and check the candy and check it thoroughly because you just never know," Williamson said.
