Reward being offered for information regarding stolen ambulance at ASU

BOONE, NC (WBTV) -

A $1,500 reward is being offered for information regarding the theft of an ambulance during the Appalachian State game Thursday night.

Watauga medical personnel say they believe the theft of an ambulance during the Appalachian State game Thursday night was most likely a prank.

The ambulance was stolen from Kidd Brewer Stadium during the Mountaineers match-up against the Georgia Southern Eagles, around 9 p.m. Officials said the truck was missing for less than an hour.

The ambulance was seen traveling south on NC 105 near Poplar Grove Road south. A short time later, officers say they found the ambulance abandoned at The Cottages of Boone.

Officials said they did not find the person or persons who took the ambulance. They said nothing was missing from inside.

Medic told WBTV they believe the incident was "most likely a prank by someone at the game."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 828-268-6959 or the ASU Police Department at 828-262-2150. Officials say all information will remain confidential.

The award was increased from $1,000 to $1,500 in November. The ambulance was taken on Oct. 22.
