Crime Stoppers: Gang of 6 break-in

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Burglars generally don't travel in packs. One or two people committing a break-in is usual fare, but 6 burglars at the same time has to be a gang, according to police.

And this gang got very lucky they weren't seen by someone driving by the Cricket Wireless on busy Freedom Drive.

It was before midnight on a Sunday when surveillance from inside the store shows someone throwing a heavy rock against the front plate glass window.

The rock bounces back several times. It creates cracks, but the door's not yielding.

"You would think stores like these would have some kind of alarm, glass alarm, but they don't," said CMPD Detective Tori Roddey.

When they resume the break-in, we see one man tugging at the glass.  He tries to kick his way in, to no avail.  Then, he aims the rock at the adjacent glass door and magically, it springs open.

The man throwing the rock enters the store first.  His mask has fallen off and we have a view of his face.  He's followed by two more men.  Then, a heavyset woman wearing mostly black and wearing gloves comes running in.  She's followed by two more men.

It's a rarity. Six burglars - 5 men and one woman - all stealing electronics.

"And that's why I think it might be some type of gang," said the Detective.  "When you've got that many people deciding to commit a crime, it's got to be gang-related more than anything."

Some were wearing gloves.  One had a pair of socks on his hands.  But at least two had bare hands and they left part of themselves behind.

Police were able to retrieve fingerprints and some blood drops, probably from the man who tried to break the glass.

"Between the blood and the prints hopefully somebody is saying, hey, I know some guys selling some hot stuff that they're giving away dirt cheap.  Maybe they'll know something about the robbery."
