Molly's Kids: A 3'2'' pre-teen in Mooresville, making a difference in dwarfism awareness


Savannah Shumaker is 3-foot, 2-inches and in the 7th grade. Her mom says her daughter is a “dwarf with Carilage Hair Hypoplasia.” At best, she’ll grow to be 4'6''.

This 12-year-old, who’s a cheerleader in Mooresville, is trying to make a difference in how dwarfism is perceived.

Savannah took it upon herself to write a letter to her principal at Brawley Middle School asking if they could set a day in October to honor Dwarfism Awareness Month. The principal agreed. They chose...

All students had free dress code as long as they wore green, the color representing dwarfism awareness. 

“When I saw all those kids wearing green on Friday in honor of my daughter, their friend, it brought tears to my eyes,” said Savannah’s mom, Stephanie. “I’m very proud of her. She goes after what she wants.”

The picture of all the kids in green is simply awesome.

One person really can make a difference.
