One #MollysKids helping another. Braylon Beam and Maddie Holliday

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Remember Maddie Holliday? The Lawndale 8th grader at Burns Middle School was diagnosed with Behcet’s Disease in 2013. That’s a rare auto-immune disease that causes inflammation in your blood vessels.

It affects Maddie’s entire body (everywhere blood flows).

I wrote about her twice in July. Once as an introduction >> http://shout.lt/bfkg7 >> then again when she was surprised with a celeb...ration >> http://shout.lt/bfkg8.

Her mom, Mandi, wrote with a good update.

Maddie had major surgery weeks ago at Levine Children’s Hospital. Mandi says Maddie is at home with feeding tubes and all the equipment that comes along with serious surgery. She's wheelchair-bound.

At first it was a manual chair that left Maddie's shoulders, wrists and elbows sore and swollen... but now she has a new tricked-out electric wheelchair.

It’s from JR Drake of Kick Hot Rods in Denver. I specifically mention him because he has helped another one of our #MollysKids before... Braylon Beam. When Braylon heard about Maddie he donated a bag of his "Team Braylon" bracelets... the proceeds from the bracelet sales went to help pay for Maddie's chair.

Hopefully Maddie and Braylon can meet soon. Would love to see a picture of that.

Until then, a story of one awesome #MollysKids selflessly helping another. Pretty good thought to move through the day.

Editor’s note: This is about one of #MollysKids, children WBTV Anchor Molly Grantham follows closely on her Facebook page. It was first published there – which is why it’s written in a personal way. For years Molly has followed hundreds of kids with uphill medical battles. Find this story and updates on all #MollysKids here.
