With a deficit of nearly seven inches in the rain gauge, we've got some much needed rain in the forecast.
A strong area of low pressure off the South Carolina coast will bring a period of heavy rain to the Carolinas over the next 48 hours. Some of the heaviest rain may come overnight into Friday morning, right during the heart of the Friday morning rush hour.

So how much rain can we expect? Well most of the computer models are printing out one to two inches of rain in the Charlotte area and out to the Northwest. Rain may be especially heavy in the foothills and mountains of Western North Carolina.
This low will be stubborn to move out of the region and rain showers may continue through the day on Saturday. Sunday is looking a little better as the low begins to move up the East Coast. And by Monday we should be clearing out completely.
