CHESTER COUNTY, SC (WBTV) - A Columbia-area man has been identified as the driver killed when a tractor trailer reportedly crossed the median along I-77 in Chester County Thursday and hit his pickup truck.
Investigators say 38-year-old Brian Scott Brown, from Lexington, South Carolina, died from blunt force trauma on scene.
According to troopers, the crash happened along Interstate 77 northbound near mile marker 55 around 10:09 a.m. Thursday morning.
Crews at the scene said there were two vehicles involved: a tractor trailer and a pick up truck. South Carolina Highway Patrol believes the commercial tractor-trailer, being driven by a 53-year-old man from Georgia, was traveling southbound when it crossed into the median and hit Brown's pickup head-on.
A representative from the United States Postal Service said the driver of the tractor trailer is a USPS contract worker and en route to Charlotte from a facility in Columbia. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.
Some mail was reportedly damaged. Postal inspectors were on the scene of the crash. The representative says workers are making "every effort" to recover mail that is readable and deliverable.
No charges have been filed, but officials say the wreck is under investigation.
