MATTHEWS, NC (WBTV) - The Matthews Alive Festival kicks off in Downtown Matthews Friday night. The 4 day event features dozens of local vendors, food trucks, games for kids and musical acts.
The event is designed to raise money for more than 30 local non-profit organizations. Event coordinator Lee Ann Moore says it's a daunting task to put the festival together every year, but well worth the effort of dozens of volunteers.
"This is our 23rd year and we've given back about $1.2 million so we're really proud of that," Moore says.
After the costs of the festival are paid, 100% of proceeds benefit the non-profit groups.
The event starts on Friday night at 6 p.m. and runs daily until Monday. Trade Street in Downtown is closed for the duration of the event.
