CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A school bus with no driver rolled down a hill near a Charlotte elementary school, hitting another vehicle before crashing into a tree.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, it happened around 4:15 p.m. along Nations Ford Road, near Nations Road Elementary School.

Officers say the bus driver thought he put the bus in park and left to walk a student into the school.

The bus then rolled down the hill from the school, went across Nations Ford Road and hit a car. The bus then went into the woods along the road.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg School officials say no students were on board the bus at the time.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, according to CMPD. MEDIC says they didn't transport anyone to the hospital.
