Speeding up? Salisbury's Fibrant planning major announcement

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - The City of Salisbury's broadband utility is planning what is being called a major announcement for next Thursday, and it appears to have something to do with speed,and a collaboration with Catawba College.

"You've been waiting for the future," a press release provided to WBTV said.  "For Internet at the speed of light. For the next generation of innovation. Today, because #WeHaveFibrant, Salisbury is one of America's true Gig Cities. Not satisfied with the best of today, we're moving beyond, to new horizons."

Dignitaries scheduled to attend include Catawba College President Brien Lewis, Mayor Paul Woodson, Deb Scotia of Next Century Cities, and "distinguished private and public sector guests."

"This innovation is a result of a collaboration between Fibrant, our technology partner Calix and Catawba College," the press release states.

The announcement will be made on the campus of Catawba College on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm.  WBTV will be covering the event.  Look for updates on the web as well as social media.
