CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A man was shot and killed Tuesday in the back yard of a southeast Charlotte home after what police are calling a domestic altercation.

The shooting happened just after 3:30 p.m. near a home on the 400 block of Skyland Avenue, which runs between Dunn Avenue and Sam Drenan Road. Police said 33-year-old Anthony Lamont Howie was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charlotte police said they are calling the incident a homicide.

Investigators say Howie was in a domestic relationship with the suspected shooter, and that an altercation between the two led to the shooting. The suspected shooter, whose name has not been released, was being questioned by police as of 5 p.m.

From WBTV's Sky 3 multiple officers and emergency crews could be seen in the area. Police had an area between two homes roped off.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call 704-432-TIPS to speak with a homicide detective, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
