Hickory rap artist hoping to make it big

CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Piere McClain knows his geographic location might be one of the biggest hurdles of his hip-hop career.

The 23-year-old grew up in Catawba County and started rapping seriously while still in high school at Bunker Hill.

"This isn't Chicago, this isn't L.A. Or Miami or something like that," Piere said, "This is Hickory, so people are automatically going to look at your music like you don't know what you're doing."

Piere, who goes by the artist name Daylieboi, has dreamed of being a rapper since he was 3 years old.

He has hundreds of songs already recorded and available on Spotify and iTunes but he wants to take his talents national. In fact, he's determined to succeed on a national level. And he hopes his success will inspire others.

"If you have a chance to do something in life and you're given the opportunity and tools," Piere said, "And you have the desire and ambition, I mean why not? You only live one life, why waste it?"

Piere has a studio set up in his Hickory home where he records. His manager and high school friend Daniel is on board to see him to his success.
