Hickory man charged with murder will not face death penalty

CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A Hickory man indicted for murder will not face the death penalty, Catawba County officials say. 

DeMarcus Kashaun Pollard, 23, was indicted in the shooting death of 46-year-old Lancelot Kenyatta Ellison. The shooting happened on June 1 on 38 8th Ave. Drive near NC 127.

Tevin Jerome Davis, 23, was also indicted on a murder charge in Ellison's death. Pollard was arrested June 11 and charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of second-degree kidnapping. Pollard remains at the Catawba County Detention center without bond. 

Pollard is expected to appear in Catawba County Superior Court on October 5.
