CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

BREAKING: A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Rowan County early this morning, according to officials.

The 252-passenger train was headed to Charlotte around 2 a.m. when it hit the pedestrian on Peeler Road at South Main Street in Salisbury. Officials say the Amtrack Train 19 was running on Norfolk Southern tracks and the engineer alerted authorities about what happened.

Nearly 4 hours after the deadly incident, Norfolk Southern officials said trains were up and running again.

No injuries to passengers or crew members were reported. WBTV's Ashton Pellom will have more details in a LIVE report.

Also breaking: Three people, including the gunman, are dead following a mass shooting inside a south Louisiana movie theater. Seven others are wounded. Officials say the shooting happened Thursday night during the Trainwreck movie. Police say the shooter is a 58-year-old man but what led to the shooting is unclear.

It's Friday and Meteorologist Al Conklin will have a look at what's expected as far as heat and rain over the weekend - as well as how hot we're expected to get today.
