CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Living as far away as I do from home, I tend to miss out on most family get-togethers. One of those annual traditions I've really missed out on since leaving home is spending time every summer at my grandparent's Cape Cod cottage.
Every year growing up my whole family would spend a week or two in Dennis, MA. I always looked forward to this vacation for the beach of course, but for the family time as well. And finally this year, after about a 10 year hiatus from this trip (I hadn't been since before college!) I was able to get up to Cape Cod for a few days this past week.
It was just as pretty as I had remembered so I thought you all would enjoy a few photos. We spent one day at the beach on the Ocean side, and another on the Bay side. The weather was perfect on both days! The Bay side is beautiful during low tide, because once the tide pulls out, the sand bar is exposed so everyone packs up their chairs and umbrellas and moves out to park on the sand bar!
I will say, I did miss the warmer water and finer sand of the Carolina beaches. The water temperature up there is about 15 degrees cooler than Carolina beaches... mid 60s as opposed to near 80, so took some getting used to. But at the same time, it was nice to not be as hot and humid on the land.
I wish I could have spent more time there, but I don't think I'll let nearly as long go by before returning! As the song goes, "If you spend an evening you'll want to stay... Watching the moonlight on Cape Cod Bay...You're sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod."
