KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) -

A Cabarrus County Schools employee was arrested on charges involving sexual activity with a student, according to Kannapolis Police.

Ricky Joe Durden Jr, 31, was arrested and charged with four counts of felony sexual activity with a student.

Police said the investigation began after an anonymous tip was sent to Crime Stoppers. Based on information collected by Kannapolis and Concord Police, and after consultation with the Cabarrus County District Attorney’s Office, warrants were obtained on Durden for the charges.

School officials told WBTV that Durden is a teacher at Jay M. Robinson High School, and has been with Cabarrus County Schools since August 2014. He was "suspended immediately pending the outcome of a personnel investigation."

"We take these allegations very seriously and are working very closely with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of our students," Director of Communications Ronnye P. Boone wrote in an email to WBTV.

Boone said that since "this is a personnel matter," they were unable to comment further.

According to Athletic.net, Durden is also an assistant coach to a girls' sports team. It is not clear what sport he coached.

No information has been released about the alleged victim - other than that they are a juvenile - or where the alleged acts may have taken place.

After his arrest, Durden was taken to the the Cabarrus County Law Enforcement Building where he was being held under a $100,000 bond.
