Police looking for person of interest after homeless man assaulted in Gastonia

GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) - Police are looking for a person they believe may have information in the case of an elderly homeless man who was assaulted in Gastonia Monday night.

Fletcher Harold Campbell, 78, was beaten with what police say appeared to be a piece of cinder block around 11:15 p.m.

Gastonia police say the person in the surveillance photos may have been the last person to see Campbell in a convenience store before he was assaulted near West Garrison Boulevard.

Campbell was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical center and later transferred to Carolinas Medical Center for facial surgery.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 704-842-5123 or Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000, where a reward is possible.
