Mid to upper 80s, afternoon storms expected

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

It's a cloudy start here on Thursday morning. And that has held overnight temperatures in the low 70's. Rain showers and embedded thunderstorms heading into Thursday afternoon.

Thunderstorm activity will ramp up again Friday as a front stalls out over the Carolinas with several disturbances riding along it. This means more widespread rain showers and thunderstorms will be found across the area, possible at any point during the day. Highs will be in the mid-upper 80s.

Heading into the Fourth of July weekend, temperatures will come up again as we return to the low 90s.  We can also expect scattered afternoon thunderstorms, but there will be plenty of dry periods throughout the weekend as well, so we are not expecting a wash-out.

We'll keep a close eye on the forecast heading in to the holiday weekend.
