CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - After 100 degree, record-breaking heat on Monday and Tuesday, high temperatures today fall back into the upper 90s. A high of 97 both today and tomorrow will stay below the record high of 102 that stands for both days as well.
Shower and storm coverage remains pretty low - around 20 percent both days. The humidity is still quite high, so even though temps hold in the upper 90s, it will still feel like it's closer to 100.
The slow downward trend in the temps continues through the late week. Mid 90s Friday should be the last day of our heat wave (by this time it will have been around 16 days straight of temperatures 90 or higher!) With the drop in temps comes the increase in storm coverage. It is bumped up to about 40 percent on Friday.
Heading into the weekend, we've got a strong cool front coming. This means Saturday will be quite stormy- with numerous showers and thunderstorms likely. However, high temperatures will hold in the upper 80s. Once the front clears the Carolinas Sunday, we dry back out as the temps continue to come down into the low-mid 80s! It looks like we'll stay in the seasonable 80s through early next week.
