Enjoy bluegrass music at the Earl Scruggs Center

Enjoy bluegrass next weekend at the Earl Scruggs Center in Shelby. A group of musicians is getting ready for an event featuring "The Hickabillies."

The Hickabilles, “the original Iraqi garage band,” are a group of bluegrass musicians who formed during Operation Iraqi Freedom, composed of members of Old Hickory, the 30th Heavy Separate Brigade. During their program, the Hickabillies will share music and stories of their experiences in Iraq and the bond of bluegrass music that brought them together.

The upcoming event is from 2:00pm to 3:30pm at the Earl Scruggs Center on Saturday, June 27th. Also, that evening from 5:00pm to 8:00, the Hickabillies will kick off our summer Pickin' on the Square series. Live music from the featured band, The Hickabillies, and a variety local musicians will fill the court square. Musicians can sign-up to play on a first come, first served basis beginning at 4:45pm the day of the event. Lemonade, cookies, face painting and crafts for kids will be available during the event.

All of this is part of the Earl Scruggs Center's Star-Spangled Summer.
