OVERNIGHT: One killed in northwest Charlotte crash; LIVE report on WBTV

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Part of Mt. Holly Rd. in Charlotte was closed for more than five hours following a fatal accident late Sunday night. The crash happened on Mt. Holly Road near Chattaroy Drive around 11:52 p.m. Police say a sedan crossed the center line and struck an SUV. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead on scene.

The roadway was reopened just before 5:30 a.m. Monday. Officials are investigating the crash and say charges are pending. Ashton Pellom has been on seen all morning and will have a LIVE report.

Breaking overnight: An investigation continues into the drowning death of a four-year-old at an apartment complex in east Charlotte. Emergency crews were rushed to the Vista Village Apartments on Montego Drive around 8:30 p.m.

The boy was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and later died at Carolinas Medical Center-University. We're told that his family is from out of town and was visiting relatives in Charlotte. Police tell us there was no foul play and no charges are expected to be filed in the boy's death.
