BLOG: Appalachian State picked to have a big year in football

We are less than 100 days from the kickoff of the 2015 college football season and the start of the 2nd year for Appalachian State in the Sun Belt Conference.  What a quick rise this program has made in the transition from FCS to FBS status.

Earlier this week, the Mountaineers were picked to win the Sun Belt this season by the Sporting News and ESPN.  Two years in and already the favorites to win it.

There is a good reason for that as App State returns 10 offensive starters and 10 defensive starters.

If they do win the conference title, they will head to the New Orleans Bowl which will be the program's first ever bowl game.

Last season, the Mountaineers were 7-5, finished 3rd in the Sun Belt Conference, and would have been bowl eligible had they not been in the transition period of moving from FCS and FBS.

Alumni have to be proud of the quick progress of this program.

As a graduate of Georgia Southern, I am very proud of the Eagles as they won the Sun Belt Conference last season and are picked to finish 3rd in the conference by Sporting News this time around.

In case you were wondering, the Eagles and Mountaineers play on Thursday night, October 22nd in a game that will be nationally televised on ESPNU.  I for one will be at this one as the conference title could be on the line and a potential bowl bid which the Eagles would love to have as well since it will be their first ever.

See you folks at The Rock on October 22nd.
