CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Really nothing more to talk about today than the mega contract that Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton just got. It's a five-year $103.8 million dollar extension - making him the third highest paid QB in the NFL behind Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger.
While Cam doesn't have a Super Bowl to his name like those two, he offers the city of Charlotte hope. He has seemingly grown every year mentally as the team's offensive leader, and has produced on the field.
He's struggled at times with high throws and inconsistency, but yet he has developed into a winner leading his team to back to back NFC South Division titles and back to back playoff berths. Both of them are firsts in franchise history. And most recently he picked up his very first playoff win as a quarterback.
It was time to renew Cam. And the Panthers stepped up in the best way possible by showing him the money that he very much deserves.
