As we approach a weekend of speed at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Jeff Gordon is the one to watch as he wraps up his phenomenal Sprint Cup career that started full time way back in 1993.
He was one of the so-called "Young Guns" back then. One of the drivers to keep an eye on in the future.
I was one of the reporters lucky enough to do a story on his possible rise to stardom and the results outdistanced the expectations.
His amazing number of wins and poles have him headed to NASCAR's Hall of Fame in the very near future. We all know that!
But for the 17 years I have been fortunate enough to cover Jeff in the sport, the thing that stuck out to me most was his respect for the sport and the way he handled himself on and off the track.
His fans are going to miss him as expected.
But even those who were never fond of Jeff and the 24 Chevrolet, I'm predicting will miss him too! Good luck Jeff in your final Coca Cola 600.
